Transcript of this section of Maneck's lecture:
When I was a young boy, before the age of nineteen, I used to play between the hours of twelve o’clock midnight and three o’clock in the morning, and I would go to sleep after that. And before going to sleep, I will always ask a question, any kind of question – show me this, show me that, prove me this, prove me that. And all I learned from my vision was things that you cannot buy through books or libraries – it was an inward heavenly delight. This is the spiritual significance of dreams.
Dreams are of three kinds – physical dreams of worldly nature, mental dreams of intellectual nature, spiritual dreams of divine vision and illumination. The physical dreams of the worldly nature come from our abdominal mind, where there is confusion, where we have made mental garbage self or physical garbage by eating pork and beans at midnight, or listening to the detective stories and looking at the moving pictures at midnight, fifteen minutes before we go to bed. And you take those memories into bed with you. And then about two hours after, they sing hullabaloo and create all kind of racket.
Mental dreams are of intellectual nature, where you search for knowledge, answers to your questions, the path to be shown to you for your future. And lastly, the spiritual dreams are the visions of God illumination which come to you and lull you and soothe you and heal you, refresh you in such a way that you do not want to wake up even from your sleep.
The worldly nature, physical dream or nightmares, they come to you around the hours of two or three o’clock in the morning; the mental dreams come around four and five in the morning, the spiritual dreams particularly come to you around five or six in the morning – just around the time you are waking up.
It is said that many people do not dream, but it is not true that many people do not dream. I just recalled a joke about it – the only people who do not dream, they are in the cemetery. You do dream, but that your mind is so preoccupied that the finer sensibilities of your subconscious mind and divine alchemy, tapping gently at your conscious mind or worldly mind, is not recognized.
Sometimes you actually talk in your sleep, and you think you are wide awake and so you are not dreaming. But that’s part of your dream also, semi-conscious or unconscious.
When my radio is going on full blast over here, and if my phone rings, and if I am sitting in the other room, certainly I am not able to read the phone if the door is closed over here. If my water is running full speed and the phone is running or ringing over here, I am not able to hear that. But just the same, the phone is ringing; just the same, somebody is knocking on the door, but I’m not aware of it. The cooperation hasn’t come to me, but the fact is there.
So in the like manner, the finer self of yours is tapping at your scroll or film of your conscious mind memory, but the impression does not come on the other side of the conscious mind from the subconscious mind.
The history of the world is made and remade and changed over through dreams of great men and great leaders. The story of Moses and David and freedom of Egypt and Jews, the history of Persia, all of them are interlinked with the concept of dreams, that the things were foretold to them, and yet they did not pay attention.
