1974: At age 14, having been brought up as an atheist, Sharon saw the movie Jesus Christ Superstar, her first exposure to the story of Jesus, experienced an inner awakening, and created her first oil painting, showing scenes from the movie.
1977: Enrolled at the University of Michigan, with a double major in neurophysiology and film/video. Began to use self-hypnosis techniques to delve into a process she called "exploring the unconscious."
1978: Took a course called "Consciousness," and was introduced to the local ashram, where Sharon experienced chanting, meditation, and ancient spiritual wisdom.
1979: Met the ashram's guru, Swami Muktananda, and experienced a weekend of earth-shattering spiritual expansions. |
