Sharon Janis is an award-winning filmmaker, musician, and author of books including Secrets of Spiritual Happiness and Spirituality For Dummies. 

With two psychology teachers as parents, Sharon was introduced to the ideas of consciousness and reality at an early age, reading some of Freud's writings and taking a three-month course on hypnosis at age seven. While studying neuroscience and film at the University of Michigan, she met Swami Muktananda, experienced a spiritual awakening,and planned a two-month stay at his monastic-style ashram. Two months turned into a ten-year journey of study, practice, service, and deep spiritual immersion, while scripting and editing hundreds of videos for the worldwide spiritualpath, and learning to perform work as loving service.

From the ashram, Sharon moved to Hollywood for an award-winning career as film editor, director, and producer, working on many news feature shows and television programs including Hard Copy, X-MEN, and the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Working with talented colleagues in these mainstream avenues honed Sharon’s creative skills, and brought her in touch withmainstream audiences. This combination of monastic life and Hollywood creativity has paved the way forSharon to share beneficial ideas with the worldwide community in a vibrant, down-to-earth style through books, music, videos, and online offerings.

 

As service, Sharon offers an extensive website of free multimedia spiritual resources at www.spiritual-happiness.com/nightlotus.html that includes  hundreds of pages of music and other sound files, videos, and books and other writings to read. In the book Secrets of Spiritual Happiness, which is available to read or hear as an audio file at www.spiritual-happiness.com, Sharon redefines the word happiness from a universal spirituality perspective, and explains how you can experiencehappiness, even during times when you may be feeling sad or upset. This deeper happiness is the fruit of authentic spirituality.

Sharon is a frequent lecturer at the Golden Door Spa on topics including "Inner Makeover," "Howto be Spiritual in a Material World," and "Transforming Yourself From the Inside Out," and has spoken and offered sacred music concerts (gospel, kirtan, chanting, etc.) at many venues, including the Sun Valley Opera House (view video clips of the Sun Valley sacred music concert at http://www.spiritual-music.com.)
